Song Planner

What is this?

We’ve been working on a simple tool for planning what songs to sing together in a service. It’s a Base made using Airtable, which is kind of like a spreadsheet, but better.

It can help you with planning:

  • Search songs by keyword (useful for choosing songs to fit in with the sermon)
  • See if you’ve got enough variety (tempo, style, what year it was produced, etc.)
  • Find songs to fit a particular function in a service (e.g. confession)
  • Keep a catalogue of which songs you sing, which songs you’d like to introduce, and which ones you’re sidelining for the moment

You can also use it to help with communication:

  • Share the plan for the next few weeks (or more!) with your music team
  • Make PDF copies of sheet music (or any other file) available to your team

How do I use it?

Go to the bottom of the preview above and click “Copy base”. You’ll need to make an Airtable account (free).

Basic instructions on how to use it are available in the Information tab in the Base.

Is this free? Can I modify it?

Yes and yes. We’re making this available freely to you under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) license.

That means you can take it and do what you like with it. Delete all the records, start again, change the views, whatever. You can even make a better version and make it available to others. We just ask that you acknowledge Exalt, and don’t make any money out of it.

You can find more details under the Information tab in the Base.

I want to use this but I need technical help

If you need help setting up a copy of the Base, first talk to someone in your church who has some skills with spreadsheets and web apps. It should be easy enough for them to navigate.

If you still need help after that, feel free to contact us at info@exalt.org.au, and we’ll see what we can do to help.
